Start any new connection at a Networking Event by asking a question. This gets the person talking about themselves which is the best way to build a relationship - showing interest in someone rather than demonstrating you are just trying to sell something.
A great question is....
"How did you get your start in the ‘widget’ business?"
This achieves several things:-
1. You get information on which you can build a relationship. Size and history of their business and thus an insight into that person.
2.When they say "but what about you?" it is an opportunity to book an appointment with them for some other time by saying "I am happy to tell you what I do some other time but today I want to hear about you!" Then book a follow up appointment.
