Are you really networking?

In a conversation recently with another networking specialist were debating the question “do people really use ALL their networks”?

And the consensus was a resounding NO! Not by a long shot!

Consider these two questions before you start responding?

Have you exhausted ALL your current networks?

Do you create networking opportunities that are not served up to you?

Last year I created a fun dinner party competition for men who cook. It came out of a few very enjoyable dinner parties that a good friend and I had created to expand our social network. 15 dinner parties later and much testosterone driven competition later, we now have created “The Silver Serviette Award” for excellence in preparing, presenting and hosting a diner party.

Besides being fun it is a great networking opportunity! Who would have thought it – “dinner party” networking!

How about “Ski Patrol” networking? Or “Community Choir” networking? Or “Book Club” networking. Or school “Parents and Friends” networking? Or “Old School Reunion” networking. The potential is endless.

So rather than being a passenger on the networking bus of opportunity and only attending the large and focussed networking groups, why not start creating some of your own.

It’s not only fun – it can lead to marvellous business opportunities.
