A simple cup of coffee - no big deal!

Every Wednesday morning I attend my networking group for their 7am breakfast. I arrive at 6.20 am, park my car, and as I walk to the venue I stop at the same outdoor café for a cappuccino.

Having originally introduced myself to the staff member - Dave - who always serves me and complimented him on the quality of his cappuccino (we have all had bad ones) we now have a connection.

Imagine my delight now (after just 2 weeks) when Dave begins making my coffee as soon as he sees me approaching – it is almost ready when I get there. And then he calls out to me telling me to sit down and he will bring it to me even though it is “counter service”.

Who benefits here and what is the lesson?

Listen Up!

How well do you really listen when networking and talking to customers or potential referral sources?

Recently I noticed the following in an issue of Coffee News!

Surely it’s no coincidence that the word “listen” is an anagram of the word “silent”.

And it caused me to reflect on the people I have met with whom it is hard to get even a few seconds of conversation where they are not speaking...
