| Trust - a learned skill? |
| In his book, The Speed Of Trust, Stephen M. R. Covey says it is "the one thing that changes everything". |
| And he challenges the concept that trust is just a "soft social virtue" but is rather a "hard-edged economic driver". |
| Interestingly, some major players in business agree with Covey. Tom Peters (Management Guru and author of "In Search of Excellence"), Larry King (of CNN fame), Spencer Johnson (author of "Who Moved My Cheese"), Kevin Rollins (CEO of Dell Inc.) |
| So why you may ask is this concept so important? After all everyone knows that trust is an important component of business relationships! |

| Word of Mouth is Best.... Right? |
| Yes it is - but only part of a complete plan - on its own it probably has some serious limitations. Let's look at that in a little more detail? |
| Here is the scenario. You establish a good reputation with a new client by providing excellent customer service. Yet aside from providing excellent customer service - which is what they paid for and probably what everyone else in the same market is doing - what else are you doing to stand out from the crowd and give that client something special to talk about? |
| A recent survey I conducted amongst several hundred small to medium entrepreneurs showed that 100% of them claimed to provide excellent customer service. So that is NOT necessarily going to ensure clients talk about you - word of mouth. You need to be doing more! |
